1997 Chevy Lumina

The 1997 Chevy Lumina could be the perfect example of your prototypical "car". What you see is what you get and this Chevy Sedan is well built. Coming as it does with few frills and plenty of basics, the standard model Lumina offers reliability, sturdiness, plenty of room and a nice low price.  While it is not a big fave among auto officienados, the Lumina can boast of chart topping crash worthiness and it is one of the least frequently stolen of all cars. Conservative in style, yet with very good visibility for the driver due to the abundant glass area, low dashboard and the hood's slope.

A one hundred sixty horse 3.1 liter engine comes standard, and provides competent maneuvering and passing. The standard transmission is the 4T60-E, known for its smooth four speed shifting.

A higher powered and more sporty edition is offered in the new for 1997 Chevy Lumina LTZ.  The LTZ has a spoiler on the rear, special aluminum wheels, and more heavily decorative rear and front ends and molding on the sides. A new four-speed transmission, the 4T65-E, is provided to handle the added power of the 215 horsepower 3.4 liter V6 engine. Improved control comes from the LTZ's firmer suspension and premium touring tires, the P225/60R-16's, while braking power is bolstered by four wheel disk brakes, controlled by the Antilock Brake System.
